CUEVA DE LOS ARCOS

What is Cueva de los Arcos and where is it located?

The Cave of the Arches is also known as La Cova dels Arcs (in Valencian, of course) and it’s an impressive natural wonder that you can find in Cala del Moraig, in the municipality of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. To help you locate it, it’s in the north of the province of Alicante.

We don’t need to tell you that it’s a true hidden gem of the Costa Blanca and that it’s a very photogenic place. Here, the light shines differently and we assure you that your iPhone screen (or whatever phone you have) will greatly appreciate it.

But undoubtedly, what’s most worthwhile about this visit is to contemplate with your own eyes, without screens in between, the horizon. You can do it through the majestic natural arches that form the cave. In the background, you’ll see how the cliff of Morro Falquí and the Cabo de la Nao of Jávea are outlined in the distance.

If you decide to wake up a bit early, the sunrise will reward you with the first rays of sun of the day, which filter through the cave’s arches. These will create a play of light and shadows that seem to come to life. As you can see, it’s easy to get poetic when we talk about this place.

Recommended Activities: Snorkeling and Diving

The Cave of the Arches is an ideal destination for water tourism lovers. With snorkeling you can take a look at the great marine biodiversity of the area, with more than 20 meters of visibility thanks to its crystal-clear waters.

On the other hand, Cala Moraig offers diving courses for all levels. It could be a great time to “debut” in this exciting world, guided by expert guides who will ensure you have an enriching experience.

Follow These Tips for Your Visit

It’s very important to keep in mind that this is a rocky place, so access to the cave is slippery and you could fall. To avoid this, wear appropriate footwear. Water shoes or sandals can be your best allies, always with rubber soles.

Also, make sure the sea is calm before entering the cave. If there are big waves, you most likely won’t be able to access it. On the other hand, it might also be good to reserve parking in advance.

Of course, don’t forget a good camera. If you have a top-notch phone, it will surely do, but keep in mind that you’ll have light like you’ve rarely seen in your life. Don’t miss immortalizing the beauty of the cave.

We don’t think it’s necessary to remind you, but just in case: remember to bring sun protection and don’t leave trash to preserve this special natural environment.

What's the Best Time to Visit?

The best time to visit the Cueva de los Arcos and Cala del Moraig is undoubtedly spring and autumn. During these months, you’ll find a more pleasant climate and enjoy outdoor activities without excessive heat or crowds.

Of course, summer is also an option if you want to enjoy the sun and water activities. But we recommend arriving early to avoid crowds and secure a good spot. Also, keep in mind that parking is paid from April 1st to October 15th.

How do you get to the Cave of Arches in Javea?

  1. By car: the most common and easiest way to get there. From Alicante, take the AP-7 and exit at exit 63 towards Benissa. Then, follow the CV-735 road towards Teulada and then towards Benitatxell. Once here, enter the Cumbre del Sol urbanization following the signs to Cala Moraig. The CV-737 road will take you directly to the parking area.

  2. By bus: you should know that the town hall of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell offers a free bus service from the town to Cala del Moraig. This way you can avoid that annoying parking moment, especially during high seasons, and simply enjoy the scenery.

Safety and precautions you should take when exploring the cave

We advise you to always check the sea conditions before your visit. Don’t forget non-slip footwear and waterproof clothing that retains heat, as it will be much colder inside the cave than outside.

Why should you visit the Cave of Arches?

Beyond the advice and precautions that every cave visit should have, the experience of the Cueva de los Arcos in Alicante is 100% essential within the province.
