Where is the Orguens Cave and how to get there without getting lost?

The Orguens Cave is located in Jávea, Alicante, right under the imposing lighthouse of Cabo de la Nao. But be careful, don’t try to get there on foot, because it is one of those geographical oddities that can only be accessed by sea. If you look for the entrance with the GPS, prepare to receive an eternal recalculation from the application.

To get there, the usual way is to go by kayak or boat from nearby points such as Cala Granadella, Cala Portixol or from the Marina de Dénia itself. Guided tours depart daily in season. Of course, go with time and book your route, especially in summer, because we don’t want scares or to miss out on adventure due to organizational laziness.

History and findings: what this jewel of the subsoil hides

The Orguens Cave is much more than a sea cave, as it has impressed locals and travelers since the 18th century, appearing in naturalist chronicles for its spectacular proportions and its play of natural lights.

Beyond its geological wonder, the surroundings are linked to ancient cultural uses, and in other caves with a twin name, tools, cave paintings and remains of Iberian cultures have been found.

In the case of Jávea, the erosion of the sea created this space worthy of a natural cathedral under the easternmost cliffs of the peninsula for millennia. Its beauty is such that it has been visited for centuries, not only by intrepid kayakers, but also by sailors, scientists and curious people attracted by the sound, color and life that is concentrated there below.

Guided tours to the Orguens Cave: schedules, prices and what you should know

To visit the Orguens Cave we recommend that you find out about the schedules, prices and some other tips.

How the excursions work

The main adventure companies in Jávea such as Siesta Advisor p Fun&Quads, among others, offer daily kayak and paddle surf routes that depart, depending on the operator, from Cala Portixol, Cala Granadella or Marina de Dénia.

The tours usually have a duration of between 3 and 4 hours and include a monitor, kayak, snorkel equipment, insurance and, of course, a good dose of anecdotes and advice from an experienced guide.

Recommended times and reservations

In high season, they offer departures both in the morning and early afternoon. It is recommended to go in the morning to avoid the heat and take advantage of the play of lights inside the cave. Book in advance because places fly and nobody wants to stay on land watching the kayaks pass.

Indicative prices

Prices range from 45-60 euros per person, always with material and guide included. But don’t forget to check updated information, as many companies offer discounts for groups or families, and there are special packs for those who want to combine the excursion with other coves and caves of Jávea.

What you will find inside the Cave (spoiler: you will love it)

Get ready to feel like a true privileged person, because the Orguens Cave is one of the largest and most amazing sea caves in Spain, with a ceiling that reaches over 35 meters deep and 20 meters high in its main vault.

This cave is aptly named Orguens (organs), since stalactites and columns of rock hang on the walls that look like the pipes of a baroque organ, not to mention the space, which will impress you as if you were entering a submerged cathedral.

In addition, the transparent access lets light through, dyeing the interior with impossible shades of blue and green, which makes the experience dreamlike when the surface of the water reflects the walls and the echo transforms any sound.

If you are one of those who like animals, here you will find small fish, schools of sargos, starfish and, for the most attentive, some cheeky octopus that watches the visitors. Snorkeling here is mandatory and underwater photos are the most sought after to show off on social networks.

Practical tips for visiting the Cave like an expert explorer

We recommend booking the tour in advance , especially on weekends or in the summer season, and also that you opt for guided tours if you have no experience in kayaking or are not familiar with the sea of Jávea. But in case you prefer to go on your own, ask about the state of the sea and the tides.

It is important that you wear quick-drying clothes, a hat, sunscreen and a waterproof case for your mobile phone so that there are no scares. And not just any footwear is valid, we recommend that you wear water shoes to be able to walk on the rocks, and get in and out of the kayak without problems.

Obviously we remind you that you have to respect the environment , so no littering, or touching the rocks or marine life, to keep the magic of this place intact.
