D\u00e9nia has plenty of reasons to fill your entire holidays. But as soon as you head just a few minutes away from the centre, you can discover yet another side of the municipality. Suddenly, orange groves, old railway tracks, and practically flat paths<\/strong> appear before you. <\/p>\n\n

The D\u00e9nia Greenway <\/strong>follows part of the route once used by the railway between Carcaixent and D\u00e9nia. Today, it\u2019s an easy route for walking and spending a few hours with the family. We’ll tell you all about it\u2014keep reading! <\/p>\n\n

The D\u00e9nia Greenway is an easy stroll between old rails and farmland<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The path starts near the town centre and heads towards Els Poblets and El Verger. Along the landscape, you’ll find citrus trees, almond trees, irrigation ditches, and farmhouse cottages, with the Montg\u00f3 and the Seg\u00e0ria mountain range silhouetted in the distance. <\/p>\n\n

To be honest, don’t expect a mountain hike or grand viewpoints. If that’s what you’re looking for, you’re better off turning back. The appeal of this walk lies in strolling along a quiet corridor, away from traffic for much of the way<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

During the summer, heading out first thing in the morning or late in the afternoon makes a huge difference.<\/strong> In spring, the scent of the orange trees adds a touch of beauty that’s hard to beat.<\/p>\n\n

Route and characteristics<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

Distance, difficulty, and surface type<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

The length is six kilometres between D\u00e9nia and the area around Els Poblets and El Verger. The route is linear and practically flat, with minimal elevation gain. Allow about two hours to complete one way at a leisurely pace<\/strong> and, naturally, much less if you’re cycling. <\/p>\n\n

The surface combines asphalt and compacted earth. There are bridges over watercourses and areas for exercising<\/strong>. The route is designed for hikers, cyclists, and people with reduced mobility. <\/p>\n\n

An old railway line turned into a nature trail<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

The route follows the path of the Carcaixent-D\u00e9nia railway, an infrastructure that eventually connected the city with Gandia and went out of service in 1974. The tracks are gone, but the corridor maintains its direction. <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

During the walk you’ll cross old hydraulic structures<\/strong> and bridges over small streams. You don’t need to know the history to enjoy it, though knowing you’re walking where the train once ran adds a special touch. <\/p>\n\n

How to get there and where to park at the D\u00e9nia Greenway<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The most common starting point is at Cam\u00ed de la Bota, in the Partida Negrals area, about 500 metres from the town centre<\/strong>. From Avenida de Alicante, you can head towards Calle Ondara and continue along Carrer Negrasa to the area near the nursery next to the start. <\/p>\n\n

You’ll find signage and a rest area in the first section. Save the exact location before you set off<\/strong>, because just typing \u201cV\u00eda Verde de D\u00e9nia\u201d into your sat nav might take you to a different access point.<\/p>\n\n

Parking and alternatives for getting there without a car<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

At the start, there are spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility<\/strong>, but you shouldn’t count on a large public car park right by the entrance. Look for permitted parking in the surrounding streets. <\/p>\n\n

If you’re staying near the centre, you can walk or cycle there and save yourself the trouble. Starting to pedal from D\u00e9nia is particularly convenient<\/strong>, as the route is very close to the town centre and you don’t need to transport your bike by car.<\/p>\n\n

Tips for walking or cycling the route<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

If you’re walking or with children<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

You don’t have to complete the whole route<\/strong>. You can walk for half an hour, stop at one of the rest areas, and head back the same way. This option works well with small children or when you want to get some exercise without spending the whole morning. <\/p>\n\n

Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat, especially during the hot months. The lack of elevation doesn’t stop the sun from doing its job<\/strong>, and the crops don’t offer continuous shade. If you’re walking with a dog, keep it on a lead and always pick up after it. <\/p>\n\n

If you prefer to cycle<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Use a comfortable bike for mixed surfaces and slow down at crossings and shared areas. <\/strong>Pedestrians can take up much of the width, and some farm access roads cross the path.<\/p>\n\n

What to see and the best stops along the way<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

The first section has benches, tables, and a great-looking park<\/strong>. Shortly after, you’ll come across the famous wooden bridges and the farmland that accompanies you for much of the way. The Montg\u00f3 stays behind you as you head west, while the Seg\u00e0ria mountain range gains presence ahead. <\/p>\n\n

When you finish you can continue towards El Verger,<\/strong> which is about a kilometre away, or connect with paths leading to the Marjal de Pego-Oliva. More experienced cyclists have the option to connect with the Safor Greenway and extend the trip towards Oliva and Gandia. <\/p>\n\n

If you only want a short outing, take one of the signposted turn-offs towards Torre Carrals, l\u2019Almadrava, or the coast. <\/strong>Check the distance before leaving the main path, as the return trip will end up adding more kilometres than it seems.<\/p>\n\n
